skiCURE

Innovative ski pole with integrated securing system

Design study 2023

Ski equipment theft is unfortunately a common and frustrating reality on the slopes. skiCURE offers a smart way to protect your gear—without the hassle of carrying bulky locks in your jacket pocket.

The integrated cable lock can be easily pulled out after entering your preset combination and wrapped around your equipment. Once the cable end is securely snapped back into the ski pole, it automatically tightens, fastening your gear in place. This simple mechanism helps deter theft and keeps your equipment safely secured.

DESIGN

Intuitive handling by design

Beyond its sporty, minimalist appearance, skiCURE has been designed with a strong focus on ease of use and intuitive handling. One of the first things you’ll notice is the visible cable, made possible by the split handle design. Together with the exposed number dials, it clearly communicates that a cable lock is seamlessly integrated into the ski pole. All movable parts are highlighted in a distinct signal color, making operation straightforward and user-friendly—even in demanding conditions.

PROTOTYPING

Validation of handeling and aesthetics

Initial functional and ergonomic tests were used to define and refine the placement of key components such as the number dials, push button, and cable outlet. For this purpose, ski poles were modified using modeling clay, and initial design concepts were 3D-printed. A subsequent demonstrator model brings together all aspects of this design study, showcasing the interplay between usability, ergonomics, functionality, and overall aesthetics.
